About the Book

Book: The Home Team

Author: Dave Pratt

Genre: Military / Romance

Release Date: November 11, 2025

Sam Anthem has always been a team player, leading his Home Team on secret missions around the world and chasing down bad guys for the U.S. government. But Sam has never had a place to call home or someone to go home to.
Consuelo Zamora has been serving as a missionary nurse, but her work has led her to be forced to work with some South American drug lords in order to provide medicine for the common people. After being rescued by Sam and his Home Team, Consuelo settles into a new position in Olympia, Washington, to work with a community center there. But somehow, trouble always follows her, and Sam Anthem seems to always be nearby to save the day.
When Sam is forced on a two-month vacation, he is introduced to a former covert ops soldier-turned pastor. But the vacation takes a turn when the Home Team comes under attack. As the team fights to stay alive against an unknown adversary, Sam begins to wonder if there is more to life than just the job. With his life on the line, Sam must decide between the job or his newfound faith and possible love.

My Review

This is an entertaining novel of military style undercover operations with a strong faith message. It was heartening to see a couple of the people on the team were Christians. That brought up a good discussion on how a Christ follower could be a soldier and even kill when the situation demanded it. This team has lots of the latest technology at their use but Sam's philosophy was that guns were to be the last resort. He was skilled in hand to hand action. There is lots of action and the stakes are heightened when it appears there is a traitor in their midst.

Particularly of interest to me was the concept of convincing drug growers to change to more acceptable agricultural pursuits. A worthy program. Another interesting aspect of this novel was the city of Olympia's approach to the homeless situation. Another worthy program.

This is probably a novel that would appeal to male readers with its emphasis on dangerous undercover operations. But two on the team are women so that added a female aspect to the adventure. There is also a bit of romance. Pratt's writing style includes effective descriptions so that I felt like I was present. His characters on the team are well developed and likable There is going to be a sequel so I'll watch for it.

My rating: 4/5 stars.

    1. Great question. I'm a retired vet, and when I came to Christ 13 years ago, I found myself wrestling with what I had to do as a warrior and my faith. Much of what the main character goes through is based on my own venture into that area. Of course, I also just wanted to create a fun read that can give people the chance to escape for a time, and also receive a bit of His message. Thanks for asking.

  4. Thank you for the kind words. It means a lot for an author to hear feedback from a noted reviewer, like yourself. It's encouraging for those of us who spend so much time crafting, creating and hoping what we create entertains, moves and delivers an important message, such as the power of faith.
