This
mystery features FBI agent Serena and is the third in a series. It
reads well on its own and has a little more emphasis on romance than
the previous novels.
Serena
is supposed to be vacationing on Martha's Vineyard but gets caught up
in the investigation following the suspicious death of her dad's good
friend, “Uncle” Jack. There is a good deal in the plot about
antiquities and smuggling as Serena works in the art crime division
of the FBI.
This
third, and I suspect the last, book in the series has more romance
than the earlier books. Nate, the super in her building, and Tanner,
her FBI partner, both show up. They both work at romancing Serena. I
felt there was a bit too much thinking on Serena's part, wondering
about the men.
The
plot of this mystery is quite complex. At one point Serena thinks,
“Okay, maybe this was more convoluted than it seemed.” (Loc
3583/4352) I felt that way too. It took so much energy trying to keep
the plot aspects straight as they were revealed that I did not enjoy
the book as much as I might have with a more simple plot.
