My Review:

This is not your fluffy book on Bible promises suggesting you will live happily ever after when you claim them. The promises Meyer explores may surprise some, such as the promise of persecution or the promise to learn how to discern God's will or the promise to help us see the error of our ways and turn to God. Meyer notes that God did not get her out of a painful situation as a child but gave her the strength and grace to get through it and ultimately help others. Those are the kinds of promises you'll find explored in this book. They are ones that help us trust God when we do not understand what He is doing.

Meyer emphasizes the Word, that we need to study it, meditate on it and make the truths it contains a part of our very being. She includes great teaching on each Bible passage and what is promised. She explains what favor, discernment, wisdom, grace and mercy are, for example. She clarifies that prosperity is not simply about money. It really means well-being, flourishing. It includes being content where God has placed us. Success, she writes, is knowing God and having an intimate relationship with Him, embracing the unique person God has designed us to be.

God promises us joy and peace and hope but Meyer does not want us to just claim such promises and go on our way. We have a part in actually seeing those kinds of promises become a reality in our lives. Incorporating the Word into our being and living into Bible truth is what will bring about what God has promised. God's Word is best and most trustworthy guide for life, Meyer writes. Read it, study it, meditate on it, obey it.

My rating: 4/5 stars.
