Ultimate Health by Tony Jeary, Rick Wilson MD, Jennifer Engels MD, with Tammy Kling

We all want to live longer, healthier, more energetic lives. Yet, do we actively pursue that life?

Knowing how to have that life of optimal health is what this book is all about. The authors help us understand mental wellness and managing our mental mindset, the importance of testing and preventative care, eliminating stress, strengthening the immune system, benefits of exercise, dental and vision care, organic foods and eliminating toxins, vitamins, calories and nutrition, adequate hydration, sleep, and spiritual wellness (from a Christian viewpoint).

Some sections are very helpful, such as listing foods that provide the vitamins we need. Other sections leave us with additional work, as this instruction: “Research, become aware of, and choose immune system-boosting foods.” (46)

This book is a very good but basic introduction to wellness. Those who know little about the topic will benefit from it while others may find nothing new here. Some sections include suggestions for further investigation but most do not. Readers who want to know more about a topic will generally have to find additional resources on their own. Several lists at the end of the book identify healthy and unhealthy foods, terms to know, and a chart identifying vitamins, hormones and minerals.

Readers with limited financial resources may be discouraged about the repeated advice of gathering together a team of health professionals (physician, fitness professional, nutritionist, registered dietitian, etc.).
