Synopsis:Former Army Ranger Tucker Wayne and his war dog Kane are thrust into a global conspiracy in this second Sigma Force spinoff adventure from #1 New York Times bestselling author James Rollins and Grant Blackwood.
Tucker Wayne's past and present collide when a former army colleague comes to him for help. She's on the run from brutal assassins hunting her and her son. To keep them safe, Tucker must discover who killed a brilliant young idealist-a crime that leads back to the most powerful figures in the U.S. government.
From the haunted swamplands of the deep South to the beachheads of a savage civil war in Trinidad, Tucker and his beloved war dog, Kane, must work together to discover the truth behind a mystery that dates back to World War II, involving the genius of a young code-breaker, Alan Turing...
They will be forced to break the law, expose national secrets, and risk everything to stop a madman determined to control the future of modern warfare for his own diabolical ends. But can Tucker and Kane withstand a force so indomitable that it threatens our future?
This is the second novel I have read by Rollins and realized all over again how much I enjoy his work. He takes some cutting edge scientific research and weaves a compelling plot around it. In this novel it is computing technology. A way has been found to capture and analyze huge amounts of data. And there is a nefarious character ready to use that capability for power and control. Some of the tools he uses are sophisticated drones, capable of learning, performing tasks with increased efficiency.
Rollins and Blackwood have crafted this novel with chilling reality. I could see how a block ops group could be operating under an association with the U.S. government yet with their own agenda. The novel begins with people from this secret group going missing. I can see how a power hungry man would get rid of people who knew too much.
I like the characters. Tucker and his war dog sidekick, Kane, are true heroes. They are willing to put their lives in danger to save the world. I like the plot. The task of saving the world takes Tucker and his crew to exotic places and through heart stopping suspense.
I recommend this novel to those who enjoy the adventure and suspense of preventing a power hungry man from furthering his reach. You'll learn about computing technology, the fragile nature of many foreign governments, military war dogs, and have an exciting story to read as well.
My rating: 5/5 stars.
