Will their tenuous partnership be enough to shield her when the killer closes in?

My Review

This is another good romantic suspense from Mentink but I don't think it is her best. I didn't find the characters as engaging as I'd like. The main characters had flaws, which I expected, but I felt they lacked true desire to overcome those flaws so the typical character arcs seemed a little flat. The mystery aspect was clear. We knew who the villain was right away and what he wanted so there was no mystery there. The suspense permeated the plot, some of it repetitive because of the stubborn independence of the heroine. Mentink did provide several red herrings which kept me interested through to the quick resolution at the end.

The novel is a good edition to the genre of the quick read romantic suspense, suitable for an evening or a plane ride.

My rating: 4/5 stars.

More from Dana

I just love Christmas, don’t you? In our area we have a lovely holiday train. It’s an old steam type train which is decked out in lights for festive holiday tours. I was so thrilled that this cover features just such a train. Of course, in the novel the train is the scene of hair raising danger! Maggie, our heroine in this novel, is a cook. She serves up some mouth watering dishes (when she’s not dodging a killer.) I thought perhaps you might enjoy a Mentink holiday family recipe! God bless you as we enter this holiday season!
