About the Book:
My Review:
It always interests me when an author writes in a genre different from their usual style. I have read all of Wright's spooky novels but this is the first of her inspirational romantic suspense I have read. It's good. It is typical of the genre, relatively short, with lots of plot movement and not deep character development. Much of the narrative included character thought. For Lainey Jo (yes, named after a member of Wright's extended family), much of her thinking was whether she was making the best decisions. She was a heroine hard for me to like as she made many unwise decisions. I expected more maturity from her. For Bowen, suffering PTSD, he struggled with guilt for a past mission failure. There is a hint of romance but nothing of much impact until the very end. An important issue explored in this novel is family loyalty. The inspirational aspect is light.
The writing is fine but not as polished as I've come to expect in her spooky dual time novels. It is a fun read, quick and entertaining.
About the Author:
Jaime Jo Wright, multi award-winning author--including the Christy and Daphne du Maurier awards--is a coffee-fueled and cat-fancier extraordinaire. She has entwined her life with the legendary Captain Hook, residing serenely in Wisconsin's rural woodlands. Her literary vocation involves penning chilling Gothic tales, a baffling change from that of Austenites, with a strong preference to the master of dark, Edgar Allan Poe. Two mischievous urchins adorn their family, who keep their mother on her toes - providing an exhilarating amount chaos.
