A wealthy banker with a long list of secrets dies.
The bizarre crime scene stumps the local police…
… but a young doctor could be the key to solving the case.
Internist Julia Fairchild encounters banker Jay moments too late - the poor man is near death in his own dining room. At first no one can figure out what killed him, but the coroner soon confirms that it was homicide: Jay died of methanol poisoning, and now a murderer is on the loose. Julia knows how to catch a killer and she can cut through the noise like a scalpel through skin. She agrees to help the understaffed police force solve the case, but each clue only complicates her investigation further.
Can Julia dissect the deadly riddle and nail the perp, or will this be the first time a monster succeeds in giving her the slip?

I found this cozy mystery entertaining even though the plot was a bit complex. While the main issue was solving a murder, there was also money missing from a pension fund, an heir surfacing previously thought dead, and Julia's sometimes troubled relationship with Alex. Because of the complexity of the situation involving the murder, there is much to uncover and figure out.
I do like Julia as an amateur sleuth. She is able to do more investigation than one might think because of the help of her nephew deputy. There was a good balance of her investigative activities with her personal life. I don't like Alex much. Since I didn't like the boyfriend in the previous novel, it seems Julia has a problem finding the right man for her. Nonetheless, I do like Julia's persistent way of investigating and will be watching for the next in the series.
While this is the fourth in the Dr. Fairchild series, it is only the second I have read. You can read my review of Pickled Pink in Paris here.
