My Review

This is a powerful book and one Christians who want to obey the command to renew their mind would do well to read. Cooney has included a great deal of information from a variety of sources. I like her encouraging us to challenge our thoughts. Our thoughts may not, in fact, represent reality. She has good teaching on how to take our thoughts captive and change our mindset.

Some may not be aware that humans have the ability to observe their thoughts, metacognition. It is a learned skill that takes practice and Cooney suggests journaling as a good tool to clarify thoughts and reconnect with feelings. I really appreciate her enlightening teaching on the difference between perfectionism and excellence. Another of her subjects I really liked was her exploration of expanding our thinking, such as critical thinking.

Cooney gives practical steps to carry out her teachings. This is not a book to read and set on the shelf. This is a book you will refer to again and again on your journey to take your thoughts captive and change your mindset.

My rating: 5/5 stars.

You can read my reviews of the other books Cooney has written in this series: Mindset Make Over, Unlock the Mind of a Champion, and Anxiety Anonymous.

More from Mimika

Unstick Your Mind was written from a place of deep pain and frustration. Having experienced anxiety, depression and disillusionment for years, I searched for sound biblical advice to help me get out of my mental rut. What I discovered was a lack of useful content that could help turn my compass toward Christ on my journey to mental wellness. After throwing myself into the world of neuroscience, positive psychology and coaching; I emerged with a fresh perspective and a passionate voice to help fellow Christians navigate the amazing miracle of renewing our mind God’s way. The good news is that you CAN change the way you think and completely overhaul your thinking when you focus on renewing your mind using biblical strategies and neuroscience.
