Social Media Strategies by T. H. Meyer

Social media is an important element of marketing today. Even small business owners have access to it. But it might be overwhelming. Which social sites should you use? How do you go about creating posts that will capture people's interest?

Meyer offers ideas and strategies recommended by top experts. She covers search engine optimization – making sure search engines find your website. She explains how to choose the best platform for you among the many available (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).

I really appreciated her explaining Facebook's algorithms. That helped me understand the “I didn't see your post” comments. Did you know that, on average, fewer than ten percent of your community will see a given post? Engagement, that “like” button, is key.

She writes about hashtags, how to increase your email list, tips on using Blogger and WordPress, buying a domain name, free sites where you can get info-graphics and surveys, and much more.

This short book is a springboard to lots of other information. Be sure you read it on a device where you can follow links because there are many. Meyer links to services she mentions and to many articles that give further information.

This is a good introduction to using social media but it does not have all the information you'll need. For example, Meyer writes about the importance of your profile description but does not give you the elements that make a profile attractive. Another example is when she writes about making your posts “sharable.” You'll need to add HTML to your pages, she writes, and suggests recruiting help if needed.

I got some great tips from this book and I've been blogging for nearly a decade. It won't tell you everything you need to know but it will get you on your way to using social media more effectively to spread your message. You'll also read some uplifting devotions to help you keep your spiritual priorities straight.

I am taking part in a blog tour of this book and you can find other tour participants and read a guest post from Meyer here.

My rating: 4/5 stars.
